As a disciple who makes disciples, the Minister for Next Gens is defined as a “leader of Leaders” for the formation and growth of specific ministry areas: Individuals and Families of Youth and Young Adult members (~14-24 years old). He will be responsible for leading a ministry that supports parents and encourages youth and young adults in achieving spiritual formation that prepares them to be strong Christian leaders. He will lead discipling and disciple-making efforts on college campuses, within the broader community and within the congregation with young adult participants and serves as a key member of the leadership team, providing leadership and spiritual care. This role will focus on nurturing youth discipleship within the home, equipping parents and guardians to lead spiritually. This role will also focus on fostering Christ-centered relationships for youth through college and early adulthood, encouraging multigenerational engagement with the whole congregation. This role, in conjunction with the Elders, Minister of the Word, and ministry leaders will also oversee and develop a network of parents and volunteers who support the youth and young adult ministries, ensuring that all programs align with the church’s mission: “Disciples Making Disciples by the Power and Presence of Christ”. This role will also be involved in developing appropriate curriculum and classes.

Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (Master of Organizational Leadership or similar preferred but not required)
Minimum seven years of demonstrated experience in family, discipleship, campus and/or youth ministry within a church setting
Proven ability to lead, through team approaches, develop and motivate volunteers, and build relationships across generations
A deep knowledge of and ability to teach the word of God to diverse audiences
Knowledge and demonstrated record of conducting ministry activities that comply with and prioritize child safeguarding practices and protocols
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

A track record of personal commitment to discipling and disciple-making
A fervent love for people and desire for every individual to know Jesus in transformational ways
Skillful in employing the Word of God to create spiritually transformative settings and experiences for the congregation
Demonstrated ability to listen well, show empathy, and respond to individual needs in ways that honor each person and reinforce their value and belonging
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as a member of a ministry team to achieve the collective aims and mission of the congregation
Strong organizational and planning skills to manage and motivate work within multiple groups having different gifts, needs and activities
Spiritually-focused with a demonstrated ability to connect with and lead youth and young adults

One of the Primary Responsibility Areas
Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy that equips families to grow in faith together, centering parents as key conduits
Partner with youth deacons and volunteer parent leaders to plan discipleship programs, worship, and outreach activities for students
Provide resources, teaching, and counseling to parents and guardians to strengthen spiritual formation in the home. Develop frameworks to empower parents to provide intentional spiritual leadership within the family context
Collaborate with the leaders of the youth and children’s ministry to create smooth transitions between age groups and ensure cohesive discipleship pathways
Collaborate with ministry leaders to plan and host family-oriented events, retreats, and workshops designed to encourage faith-based relationships

A Primary Responsibility Area.
Provide a biblical perspective and engage in discussions of critical issues facing the teens and young adult population
Serve as the primary point of contact for ministry related activities
Partner with the Elders and Minister of the Word to develop and facilitate classroom, individual and small group Bible studies
Maintain a visible presence at gatherings, community events, and on local campuses as appropriate
Encourage multigenerational and multicultural connections between younger adult and older adult members of the congregation
Partner with Journey Group leaders to develop outreach projects that specifically involve young adult members
Partner with the Young Adult ministry volunteer team - including “adoptive” parents - to plan relevant and effective discipleship programs, worship, and outreach activities description

A Significant Responsibility Area
Provide support, prayer, and spiritual counseling to families, parents, and youth as needed.
Participate actively in staff meetings, worship planning, and overall church leadership initiatives.
Collaborate with staff and ministry leaders to ensure a unified approach to discipleship and congregational care

Maintain accurate and organized records of ministry activities, participation, and outcomes
Oversee and steward ministry budgets responsibly and in alignment with church goals
Attend regular meetings with staff, ministry leaders, and elders for coordination and accountability

Salary is approximately $80-$85k annually, based on experience. Additionally, allowances, retirement and health benefits are offered. The performance of this job will be evaluated annually according to Brooks Avenue’s performance management system.

The Minister for Next Gens is expected to be among the people and available to individuals in contexts both in and outside of the church building. Compensation is salaried, assuming a full-time work week that includes hours that may fall outside of the “normal” work hours of 8:30 am - 5 pm. The schedule will include regular office hours. Delivery of classes and sermons on Sunday mornings and mid-week Bible classes as determined by the leadership team. Position includes comprehensive benefits, including but not limited to, professional development opportunities, ministry expense support and paid time off. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a criminal background check and agreement to abide by the Code of Conduct and Covenant to Serve.
